Movie Review: Animal Farm: A Cautionary Tail (2025)

I went to see the 2025 adaption of "Animal Farm" at Cinemark Fallen Timbers 14 and XD, at was pretty cool overall. Directed by Andy Serkis, the movie presents the story in impressive animation.

The story is based on George Orwell's 1945 novella that satirizes the 1917 Russian Revolution and the rise of Stalinism. The movie follows the revolution at Manor Farm, where the animals revolt against their human master with the aim to set up a society where all animals are equal. But the pigs, led by Nepoleon, seize power in and establish a brutal dictatorship in association with a ruthless billionaire Frieda Pilkington. The pigs rewrite history, exploit the working animals, and eventually adopt the same oppressive behaviors as the humans. The story is seen through the eyes of a new character, Lucky, a young piglet who admires Nepoleon but slowly realizes that the revolution is sold out and the initial ideals of freedom have evolved into a corrupted tyranny. Lucky leads a group to go against the tyranny.

Quotable quote: “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
